Roxy and I had been meaning to take the kiddies to the Natural History Museum at Tring for the longest time and we finally made it there this morning.  We had the BEST time, the experience far exceeded our expectations. 

The Natural History Museum in Tring has quite a fascinating history, it was originally a 21st birthday present to Walter Rothschild from his parents, built to house his ever-growing collection of specimens, and it opened to the public in 1892.  When Walter died in 1937 he very kindly bequeathed his private collections, the museum and the land surrounding it, to the Natural History Museum in London.  

Unfortunately, our Issy wasn't able to join us on the outing, but 5 year old Daniel absolutely loved it.  

Initially, he wanted to jot down the name of each animal he saw in his notebook, but once we realised quite how very many animals there were (4900 specimens to be precise!) we convinced him to give up on that idea!

The museum is very child-friendly, with lots of hands-on displays which our little man loved.

We will definitely be visiting the museum more often as there was so much to see that we feel it would take a good few visits to take it all in.
