Camino Frances: Sarria to Morgade

Tuesday, 11 June 2024

Our first day of walking was from Sarria to Morgade, a walk of about 12kms on paper, but 14kms in reality

We started out from Sarria in lovely cool temps (about 16C) after a very pleasant stay at Pension Baixo a Lua Rooming.  (Lovely owner, excellent amenities, very clean and well located.  Highly recommend)

There was immediately a mean set of stairs to get us huffing and puffing on our way.

The initial stretch of the walk out of Sarria was quite busy but it thinned out quickly. We stopped twice - first for a coffee and cake and then for an ice cold beer/shandy.

The path was really lovely today - lots of shaded woodland areas and also rural farmlands (with the accompanying bovine/porcine smells which were sometimes not so pleasant!)

All in all we couldn’t have wished for a better start to our Camino! We’re now happily settled at Casa Morgade, have had a good lunch of bocadillos and are about to have a coffee and a siesta.

Casa Morgade is a perfect stop if you want to break the stage between Sarria and Portomarin.  Couldn't fault anything and would definitely stay here again.
